While his passion for homemade cameras may once have seemed nostalgic and quirky, there has been an upsurge of interest recently in less technologically involved processes, says Brian Young LRPS, as he provides a step by step guide to making, and photographing with, pinhole cameras Whether looking for the serenity and dreamlike quality of old pinhole images, or striving for image sharpness close to that produced by lensed cameras, pinhole photography fascinates me. I feel like a magician, handling light and darkness in a simple box. The processes involved are slow, and the final result often a surprise. I anticipate something wonderful at the end though, which makes it worth the wait.
