Depth of the Shot-Hardened Surface Layer on Machine Parts

The contact interaction in the shot hardening of the surface layer of machine parts is investigated. A formula is obtained for the depth of the shot-hardened layer as a function of the machining conditions and the mechanical properties of the material.
