Cutting properties of interchangeable cutting inserts with a complex face

The creation of interchangeable solid-alloy cutting inserts (ICI) for cutting tools is complicated. High wear resistance of the contact surfaces must be combined with high strength, thanks to the chemical composition and structure of the solid alloy and the use of coatings. By choosing special geometry of the ICI face, the cutting forces and temperature may be reduced and chip formation may be facilitated, without impairing fault-free operation of the equipment.
