摘要

The hardening of metals and alloys improves the performance of frictional components and cutting tools to varying degrees. Considerable progress has been made with surface-hardening technology, thanks in part to greater theoretical understanding of the surface strength of metals. At manufacturing plants in Russian and elsewhere, new tool-hardening technologies (including the application of wear-resistant coatings) have recently been introduced, with improvement in wear resistance. These methods include lamination of the tool's working surface; heat treatment; magnetic-pulse treatment; electrophysical methods; condensation by ionic bombardment; ionic implantation; hybrid methods; electrospark alloying; and electroacoustic alloying of tools' working surfaces.
