This well presented exhibition did full justice to the work of Geoffrey Swindell an was a credit to the curatorial skills of Sandra Jackaman, Exhibitions Officer at Newport Museum and Gallery. Swindell has enjoyed close links with the museum over many years and, on viewing this comprehensive survey of work from all stages of Swindell's career, it was immediately apparent that maker and curator had worked productively together to stage a major retrospective exhibition. Swindell has always worked within a severely restricted scale; the smallness of his work is his hallmark. He is happy to acknowledge a connection between the scale of his work and the cramped surrounding in which he grew up and this is a theme that David Briers elaborates in an informative and insightful catalogue essay to accompany the exhibition.
