Dramatic rise in area under rubber likely: Dr. Stephen Evans

The high prices prevailing now may induce farmers to extend rubber cultivatior to more areas, as seen in the Asia Pacific region during 2005-2008, says Dr. Stephen Evans, Secretary-General of International Rubber Study Group (IRSG), ir his presentation made at the Fifth China Rubber Conference and World Rubber Summit 2010 held in Qingdao, China, recently Between 2005 and 2008, a dramatic increase in total new planting took place in the Asia Pacific region with more than one million hectares added. Current high market prices for natural rubber may stimulate a further surge in new planting area as last seen in the 2005-08 period.
