We substantiate the need for the probabilistic methods in designing the machine parts and disclose the evident inaccuracy of the probabilistic design methods that are known in the literature. We present the probabilistic calculation schemes with account for the confidence intervals of the distribution parameters for two cases: the comparison of the strength and load distributions that obey the extreme-term distribution of the Fisher-Tippet sample, and the comparison of the strength and load distributions that are normally distributed. The possibility for the use of the probabilistic calculations in fatigue is shown.
