US issues tyre safety rules for aircraft

Prompted by landing gear tyre failures that led to a fatal 2008 plane crash, US regulators have established new rules to ensure proper tyre pressure on more than 200 Learjet business aircraft. The safety directive issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires US operators to conduct more frequent landing gear inspections of Learjet 60 models, which are especially susceptible to takeoff hazards from under-inflated tyres.
