Slowing East, rising west

Strange are the ways of the world. They say change is the only constant thing in the world. But changes are often abrupt, unpredictable and unreliable. Look at the Arab Spring in 2011 which saw the destabilization of many of the Middle East's long-time dictators. After these abrupt and momentous developments, people were expecting realignment of the democratic forces. But, instead of liberal democratic reforms, extremist groups or military are gaining ground. Be it Egypt, Syria, Libya or Tunisia, the story is same. A bloody changeover from ballot to bullet!
