On economy salvaging mission

The man widely noted for his economic reforms, is once again back in the saddle as India's Finance Minister after a gap of nearly four years. A Harvard educated lawyer, Chidambaram was at the forefront of the economic reforms unleashed during the P V Narasimha Rao Government post- 1991. He took over as the Finance Minister in the United Front Government in 1996 under H D Deve Gowda. But he could not carry the reforms forward due to the fall of the Government.
