The truth is that, even if there is a 'fool proof system, corporate excellence is vulnerable to set-backs. The bigger you get, the more the tentacles of collapse can engulf you like you are targeted at by the perils of 'slow ruin'. Being the king of the industry now, you can't boast of an unchallenged future. Many of the multinationals, more than half of them which Forbes magazine called as 'great companies' since 1995, have suffered abrupt decline in the last 15 years. Seventy per cent of the Fortune 500 companies listed in the year 1955 and 40% of the companies on the 1979 Fortune 500 list are now extinct. Of those on the 2000 list, 30% have alreadv disappeared.
