Accord field trial sanction for GM rubber

摘要

The previous Left Democratic Front Government in Kerala headed by V S Achuthanandan did not give permission to the Rubber Board, India, to conduct field trials of GM rubber in the State, mainly because it was ideologically opposed to the cultivation of GM crops. Subsequently, the Board started field trials in the State of Maharashtra for which the necessary permission was given by the Government. The Board is still awaiting permission from the Kerala Government to start field trials in the State which is considered to have conducive agro-climatic conditions to grow GM rubber.
