Step One: Tenneco opens first Chinese elastomer component site

LAKE FOREST, Ill.—Tenneco Inc. plans to open its first elastomer component plant in China this year as part of its long-stated plans to expand in that nation. The Tenneco Suzhou Vibration Control Co. Ltd.'s 62,500-sq.-ft. plant in Suzhou will open in June, Tenneco said Feb. 28. The facility will combine Tenneco's global engineering and manufacturing capabilities to produce elas-tomeric vibration control products under the Clevite Elastomer and Monroe brand names. The Suzhou plant—Tenneco's first wholly owned facility in China—will employ 80 initially, and mostly use natural rubber, the company said.
