The Japan Refractory Association reports that Japanese production of refractories remained broadly stable in the first half of 2016, reflecting stable crude steel production. Output fell by 1% year-on-year to 437,000t (Table 1). While production of unshaped refractories was stable (at 307,000t), output of shaped products fell by 3% year-on-year (to 130,000t), due to lower production of high-alumina and chamotte products.
