This book accompanies an exhibition at the Crafts Study Centre in Farnham curated by the potter Alison Britton. She has selected an anthology of objects from three craft collections, that of the Crafts Study Centre, the British Council and the Crafts Council. The exhibition and catalogue reflect not only the different and evolving collecting criteria of these bodies but also of the changing definition of craft, from the utilitarian and functional to today's art object. Well produced, the book comprises six essays that address the history of crafts exhibitions and institutional collecting since the British Council's establishment in the mid 1930s.
