Share yor Hobby Knowledge with a Younger Generation

Why should rockhounds speak to schools? Most people who speak to schools and other groups do so because of their love for the rock-hounding hobby and their joy of sharing it. This attitude provides enthusiastic programs, but perhaps more serious results are gained. Competent, knowledgeable, generous speakers convey to students, who are our future adults, voters and lawmakers, that rock hobbyists are a good group of people who provide many beneficial services-they are not villains from whom the environment must be protected. My lifetime vocation required me to work rotating shifts, which made me available during the week to help my children and grandchildren's teachers and schools. As a result, I have been speaking to school and other groups since the late 1960s. In addition, I have chaired the education committees of my local club, our state council, our regional federation, and the American federation.
