摘要

Aim of the paper is to assess the fatigue behaviour of both fillet load-carrying and non-load-carrying cruciform welded joints, characterised by different geometrical parameters, such as main plate thickness, weld size and gap length (due to the lack of penetration). The analyses take advantage from an energetic method recently developed by Lazzarin and Zambardi, where the predictions of the fatigue crack nucleation site are based on the deviatoric energy density in a finite size volume surrounding the different critical points. The structural volume radius is thought of as a material property. Theoretical predictions are compared with 8 series of experimental data taken from the literature, where fatigue failures occurred alternatively at the weld toes and the weld roots.
