ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES OF ENERGY PRODUCTION AND UTILIZATION

Environmental issues with energy supply and use are related not only to global warming, but also to such environmental concerns as air pollution, acid precipitation, stratospheric ozone depletion, forest destruction,and emission of radioactive substances. These issures must be taken into consideration simultaneously if humanity is to achieve a bright energy futureiw th minimal environmental impacts. Much evidence exists, which suggests that the future will be negatively impacted if humans keep degrading the environment. In this paper, energy production and use, and their major environmental impacts are discussed from the standpoint of energy and environment related issues and policies. It also examines various issues related to the current energy situation and anticipated patterns of future energy use, and energy and environment policies. Cleaner technologies, renewable energy technologies and energy conservation technologies are identified as the most effective potential solutions topresent environmental issues. An illustrative examkple is presented to highlight the importance of implementing such technologies. As a result,it is believed that the present study will provide guidance in implementing effective energy policies.
