In summary it may be said, that strip passivation with the Chemcoater (table I) is a safer and cleaner process. The target layer is satisfactory even if there are high varied speeds in the line. The coating layer over the width of the strip is homogeneous if the coating rolls are checked for abrasions regularly. In these trials there were values for a soft coating process and with minimum costs. As passivate Cr~(6+) is due to be abolished and replaced by Cr~(3+), the results of the tests are transferable to Cr~(3+). Chromate free passivation is currently under work.
