To improve the gauge accuracy of the strip rolled on the No. 3 tandem cold mill of Chiba Works, a new gauge control system, including a gauge set-up system using the entry gauge meter, the absolute BISRA-AGC for the No. 1 stand and the model based massflow AGC for the downstream stands, was applied. The off-gauge length of strip was divided by two and brought down to a few metres.
