At Mizushlina works of Kawasaki Steel, application trials of magnesia-carbon (MgO-C) bricks to the RH degasser lower vessels were carried out in order to increase campaign life and reuse old bricks to a greater extend. It was confirmed that the vessel life was approximately 15 percent longer than with conventional magnesia-chromite brick lining. Furthermore, the MgO-C lining had no negative influence such as C pick-up during ultra-low carbon steel production.
