Improvement of the surface quality of continuously cast slabs of 0.08-0.12 percent C steels

Longitudinal surface cracks are still likely to occur on CC slabs of 0.08-0.12 percent C steel. A reduction in the longitudinal crack ratio has been obtained mainly thanks to an optimization of the thermal exchange through the mould and lubrication conditions. An instrumentation of the mould has been used to evaluate the different solutions proposed for industrialization.
