Estimation of genetic variability in F_2 population of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

In sunflower, three F_2 generations of cross combination, namely, PI 307942 x GP 270, CO 3 x GP 270 and CO 3 x TNHP-2 were evaluated in a randomized block design during December 2001 for six characters. High estimates of phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were obtained for 100-seed weight in PI 307942 x GP 270. High estimates of heritability coupled with high genetic advance were observed for seed yield in CO 3 x GP 270 and CO 3 x TNHP 2.
