摘要

Assessment of variability estimates has been one of the dependable statistical measures to tmd out the mutaaenic effect on the polygenes. The study was conducted by using two mutagens viz., Gamma rays and bMS in cowpea varieties (CO 6 and VBN-I) in the M2 generation. The heritability and genetic advance had mostly increased in majority of the characters. The increase was more visualized in single plant yield, number oi pods per nlant and pod length. 50 Krad of gamma rays and 0.15% of EMS treatments were found to be most effective to produce offsprings with maximum estimates. VBN-1 was found to be more effective for fixing and advancing the superior characters induced through mutations.
