THE STATE IS HOME TO 13 goldfields, each of which has produced at least 1Moz of gold with the Bendigo field alone having produced 22Moz while the Ballarat field has yielded 12Moz. The Victorian government is keen to see gold exploration in the state increased as it is very much of the impression that there is still life, and gold, to be found in these regions. "Much of Victoria remains underexplored," the Department of Primary Industries said. "GeoScience Victoria's assessments have indicated ... that it is likely that there are multi-million ounce deposits in the state that remain undiscovered.
