Australia: evaluation of MSDS for products containing nanomaterials

Safe Work Australia commissioned a review of an evaluation of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and labels for products containing engineered nanomaterials. The evaluation considers how information on current MSDS for engineered nanomaterials reflects the state of knowledge as regards the hazards, risks and controls. The majority of the MSDS in the survey were compiled during 2008 or 2009. It was observed that in the main information on health effects, exposure standards and control measures applied to the corresponding bulk material. Guidelines for improvements in MSDS for engineered nanomaterials are included in the review (eg hazard classification for different types of engineered nanomaterials).
