Hybrid poly(alkylene siloxanes) are a relatively new class of thermally stable polymers with enhanced chemical resistance, with potential applications as wetting agents, surfactants or in hydrophobic coatings. Epoxy-functional siloxane monomers & oligomers were first synthesised and cationically cured back in 1990, but these early low molecular weight systems produce hard and brittle materials with poor elongation and flexibility. This paper describes attempts to prepare epoxy-silicone monomers with different flexible backbone structures between two epoxide groups.
