Photopolymerised resin composition and optical fibre

Coatings on optical fibres are designed to protect the glass fibre from external influences. The cured inner layers are soft and elastic to absorb shock that can occur when the cable is being manufactured or spliced. The outer coating should be hard enough to increase the strength of the fibre and exhibit low water absorption, good flexibility and chemical resistance. Conventional coatings do not ensure rapid curing due to their high viscosity and so reactive diluents are added. These diluents tend to reduce the adhesive strength in hot water and release volatile components during coating.
