Automakers favour sandwich flooring

Lighweight composite sandwich structures are replacing wood and metal in the Audi A4 and DaimlerChrysler E Class estate car boot floors. The load-bearing, rigid structures are made using Baypreg F polyurethane resin from Bayer Polymers AG together with long glass fibre mat skins and a paper honeycomb core.
