Validation of fatty liver index and lipid accumulation product for predicting fatty liver in Korean population.

Fatty liver is the most frequent liver disease in Western countries (1). In 2006, fatty liver index (FLI) was suggested for the prediction of fatty liver in the general population (2). Recently, lipid accumulation product (LAP) was also validated for detection of hepatic steatosis (3).We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of subjects who visited and were examined for general screening between January 2006 and November 2010 at Korea University Ansan Hospital Health Promotion Center. Collected Information include sex, age, smoking history, alcohol ingestion history (determined from questionnaires completed by participants, we consider significant if > 140g/week in males or >70 in females), presence of diabetes mellitus (DM), presence of hypertension (HTN), body mass index (BMI, weight divided by height squared, kg/m2), waist circumference (cm), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP), fasting blood sugar (FBS), haemoglobin Ale (HbAlc), aspartate ami-notransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma-glutamyl transferase (gamma-GT), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), results of abdominal ultrasonography (US). FLI and LAP were calculated as described previously (2, 3).
