13th Biennial Worldwide Congress on Refractories - UniTecR'13

UniTecR'13 was organized from 10 to 13 September 2013 at the Iconic Fairmont Empress Hotel and Congress Centre in Victoria/CA by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). Highlights of the meeting were the keynote lecture given by Remco de Jong, Vice President and General Manager of the Refractory Minerals Division at Imerys, as well as plenary lectures from Tom Vert, General Manager of Primary Manufacturing at ArcelorMittal Dofasco, and Charles E. Semler, President Semler Materials Services. Over 230 oral presentations and 40 posters covered the wide field of refractory expertise and presented it to the 630 attendees. 32 companies exhibited at the conference exhibition, which provided a meeting platform throughout the event. The welcome reception sponsored by Kemeos/FR at the Royal British Columbia Museum with hundreds of artefacts, specimens, and dramatic displays of British Columbia's natural and human history was one of the special social events. The conference dinner at the Crystal Gardens, which was supported by the Refractories Institute/US, provided an excellent opportunity to get together and summarize the individual findings of the meeting.
