The upgraded railway line between Hamburg and Berlin incorporates 132 points. One of the jobs to be done during the second phase of the upgrading work involved replacing these points or retrofitting them with high-speed technology. This had to be done round the clock in normal operating conditions - in other words generally during possessions. All these points or their individual parts were supplied by a company called BWG (in full: BWG Gesellschaft mbH & Co), which also provided support for their installation. Some of the novel high-speed point components are also described in detail in this article.
