The world has changed in countless ways since Animals magazine was launched in 1963. Take a trip through the archives to see how the magazine has charted the times. "Sexual intercourse began in nineteen sixty-three . . . Between the end of the Chatterleyban/And the Beatles' first LP." 1963 was what poet Philip Larkin called an Annus Mirabilis, a wonderful year, a watershed. And so it was - because in the Western world at least, it marked the end of a sort of public naivety. People stopped doing whatthey'd been told. One area of rebellion - less conspicuous than sex, but every bit as influential - was the environmental movement. And for the next 40 years, its evolution was to be charted by a single magazine, which also began in 1963. It was calledAnimals, later Wildlife and now BBC Wildlife Magazine. In its pages, we can trace real changes in our attitudes to wildlife, both in our ways of protecting animals and our ways of looking at them.
