The allelopathic effects on the leaf extract of D. sissoo at various concentrations (40, 80 and 120 g/litre) on maize, oat, sorghum and mustard were studied. Each of the crops was grown for 15 days in petri dishes containing the aqueous extract of D. sissoo. The germination of the crops was reduced as the concentration of the leaf extract increased. The fresh and dry weights of the shoots and roots of all crops were greatest in petri dishes containing 40 g leaf extract/litre. In the presence of the leaf extract, sorghum produced the longest roots, followed by oat, mustard and maize.
