Influence of sulphur and micronutrients application on yield and quality of fodder sorghum grown with and without FYM.

This study was conducted during kharif season of 2004 o 2006 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India using fodder sorghum (Sorghum bicolor). Treatments consisted of 3 levels of farmyard manure (FYM, 0, 5 and 10 tonnes/ha) in the main plot, and six combinations of secondary and micronutrients: NPK alone (T1); T1 + S (T2); T2 + Zn (T3); T3 + Mn (T4); T4 + Cu (T5); and T5 + Mo (T6). Results showed that the control treatment gave the lowest grain yield, crude protein and in vitro digestibility but resulted to highest neutral and acid detergent fibre content and N:S ratio. Meanwhile, T6 gave maximum yield values as well as crude protein content. T3 gave minimum detergent fibre contents but had maximum in vitro digestibility. T5 produced the lowest N:S ratio. It is concluded that the application of 40 kg S, 20 kg Zn and 10 kg Mn/ha along with NPK is recommended for higher yield and quality of fodder sorghum. The application of FYM at 10 tonnes/ha is as effective as with the combined application of 40 kg and 20 kg Zn/ha.
