The investigation was carried out during 1993-95 at Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, to find out the effect of varieties, moisture regimes and nitrogen levels on moisture extraction pattern, evapotranspiration and total water use of oats. The results indicated that increasing irrigation frequency as well as nitrogen dose increased the moisture extraction, evapotranspiration demand, total water uptake and dry matter yield. The increase in dry matter yield of oatwas found directly proportional to increase in water uptake by the crop. JHO 851 extracted more moisture from upper soil layers than JHO 822. However, values of total moisture extraction as well as dry matter yield were significantly higher in JHO 822.
