Rio Tinto's Aluminum product group produced the first ingot on its new small foundry ingot casting unit in the Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean, Canada, region on September 8th, 2015. The US$4.8 million expansion project was completed on time and on budget and allows the company to better serve North American demand for primary aluminum foundry alloys, particularly in the transport and automotive sectors. "These are exciting times for the transportation and automotive industries," said Jean-Francois Laplante, director of Aluminum Foundry Ingot & Rod, America & Europe, Rio Tinto. "We are thrilled to bring this new volume to market."
