摘要

The way to gain better quality and higher casting performance is an urgent topic among aluminum producers today. Controlling molten metal flow by maintaining predefined levels or level patterns is one of many powerful ways to reach this goal. Precimeter Control, located in Sweden and the U.S., specializes in applications for non-ferrous molten metal level measurement and molten metal flow control. By integration, or retrofitting any new or existing casting line with Precimeter equipment, it can easily be automatically controlled and gain improved casting performance in a cost efficient way. In DC billet casting there are a lot of different factors and parameters that affect the quality of the end product. The cooling system, water flow or temperature, degassing, filtering, melting temperatures, grain refining, casting speeds, etc. are all important factors without any direct relation to metal level control. However, for metal distribution, metal transfer, fill rates, cooling optimization, and metal solidification, high performance metal level control is a powerful tool that is required to reduce shell zones, bleed outs, and to improve surface structure.
