Recent Technological Trends in Aluminum Alloy Trains: Japan's Next Generation Train System - the Hitachi A-Train

This article reviews the development of aluminum alloys in the construction of passenger rail cars and describes, in detail, the recent A-Train system, a typical example of aluminum train technology. This development makes extensive use of the new joint technology called friction stir welding (ESW).
