AEC Second International Design Competition

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) is preparing to hold its Second International Extrusion Design Competition. The first competition, held in 2000, was a resounding success with nearly 60 entries. The goal of the competition is to promote the understanding and use of extruded aluminum profiles, as well as to highlight innovations and recognize excellence in aluminum extrusion design.Aluminum extruders, designers, engineers, and manufacturers of extruded aluminum products are eligible to submit entries under the professional category. Entries will be grouped by definition of end product in five different categories: Architectural, Transportation, Industrial, Commercial, and Residential. Students will compete in a separate category, regardless of end product. Winning entries will be those that demonstrate the benefits of aluminum extrusions, whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one, by achieving the following objectives: ease of fabrication and assembly, cost-effectiveness, innovation, new application, customization, close tolerances, improvement of extrusion processes, and likelihood of market success.
