TMS 2001: Cast Ship Technology

The Cast Shop Technology program of The Light Metals Division at the TMS annual meeting in New Orleans February 12-15, 2001, was comprised of eight separate sessions. Seven of the sessions are reviewed here. The general attendance at the presentations was somewhat less than in previous years. The number of people who attended the specific sessions varied considerably from past years, both with respect to individual sessions and with regard to individual paper topics within a particular session. The absence of papers and familiar faces from once prominent companies was quite apparent. This might have been attributable to a combination effect of the continuing depressed financial conditions in the aluminum industry. It is difficult to directly assess the effect of the recent corporate mergers on attendance. Also of note was the obvious absence of any energy-related papers, despite the fact that the industry was undergoing some dire energy experiences.These synopses are presented for the convenience of Light Metal Age readers who may not have been able to attend the meeting or otherwise did not have access to the information provided. The following review lists the papers in their order of presentation.
