The US Army Corps of Engineers began Monday opening 28 of the 350 locks on the Bonnet Carre Spillway in an effort to relieve pressure on the Mississippi River

The Corps has asked permission from the Mississippi River Commission and is expected to open that spillway by Thursday. Home of some of the larger fabrication yards on the Gulf Coast, Morgan City, Louisiana, Mayor Tim Matte told Gas Market Reconnaissance today that many service companies have been moving as much of their equipment as possible out of the flood zone. He added that it could be weeks before the water recedes enough for those companies to go back and check on their equipment.
