SandRidge Energy has reached a deal with Oklahoma state regulators to reduce its disposal volumes in wastewater injection wells in the areas around the towns of Medford, Cherokee and Byron and convert several wells to a research project studying earthquakes in the region
The deal between SandRidge Energy and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission's Oil and Gas Conservation Division calls for the company to remove seven wells from disposal operations and reduce its intake volume in the area by 40% or roughly 191,000 barrels a day. Of the seven wells that are being removed from operations, three will be shut in and the remaining four will be converted to monitoring wells to give researchers studying earthquakes in Oklahoma real-time data.
