Ah, spring. Are you thinking about cow poo? Or more broadly, the different types of amendments you can use toboost the health of your soil? Well, good, because spring is a great time to incorporate organic matter (stuff that was once living) into the soil to keep your plants healthy and looking their best. Even soil that seems to be in good shape (soft, dark brown with a crumbly texture) can benefit from the addition of organic matter, particularly composted manure or composted kitchen scraps and yard waste. Aged chicken manure, mushroom compost, worm castings, grass clippings (not chemically treated), mulched leaves, aged straw and even shredded newspaper are good choices.
