Swiss based speciality chemicals maker Clariant has agreed to divest its water treatment business in Africa to South African explosives manufacturer AECI. The total value of the sale, expected to be closed in 2Q 2014, subject to regulatory approvals, amounts to SFr 34 million ($XX million). As well as being an explosives and speciality chemicals group, AECI already has a footprint in the industrial water and municipal and waste water markets in South Africa. Clariant's Water Treatment business provides chemicals, services and engineering solutions for a wide range of industries such as mining, automotive, food and beverage, metals and many others, and also serves municipalities to ensure the supply of clean drinking water in many African communities.
