It is not often, even in the evolving world of nutritional foods, that a company has the opportunity to launch a first-of-its-kind product with the potential to build a new and important food category. But that is precisely what Melbourne, Australia-based dietitian Sue Shepherd is doing. Her new range of low FODMAP foods is the world's first based on the FODMAP diet - low in certain naturally occurring fibres and sugars - which Shepherd originally developed as a dietary therapy for patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
