A new picosecond cold-processing laser has been introduced with up to 50-W TEMoo average power and pulse repetition rates as high as 1 MHz. These are reportedly well-suited for high-quality industrial micromachining. The throughput is increased by more then a factor of 10 compared to previously available models. Now more then 10 mm{sup}3 of material per minute can be abated coldly, without thermal side effects. The manufacturer of the laser, RPMC Lasers Inc. (O'Fallon, MO), says it produces virtually no heat affected zone, no cracks, and no burr at the edges.
