Lima starts to award delayed oil licence extensions

Peru is finally bringing to a close a two-year process to extend expiring oil production licences awarded in the 1990s. The energy ministry signed a 10-year extension on 30 March for London-listed Maple Energy to continue operating two production blocks in the Peruvian jungle,and on 5 April it offered Norway’s Interoil one-year temporary licences for two blocks on the northwestern coast. Lima is also concluding negotiations for 10-year licence extensions with Chinese state-owed CNPC subsidiary Sapet and Peruvian firm Monterrico for producing blocks onshore the northern coast.
