Dr. Noboru Mizushima, professor at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Japan, won this year's FEBS Letters Young Scientist Award for his paper on the role of autophagy in controlling cell size .Noboru was originally inspired to study human biology by his father, who is an MD and is also involved in research. After his doctoral studies in rheumatology, Noboru headed towards new frontiers by switching to study autophagy, a largely unexplored field to which he has by now made major contributions.
