SAMPLES destined for analysis by gas chromatography liquid chromatography including water, soils, food and beverages are often extracted with an organic solvent and must typically be dried and concentrated before analysis. Experience has shown that the drying and concentration steps can result in significant recovery losses of analytes. These losses are due to several factors. Firstly, sodium sulphate can adsorb compounds or allow excess residual water to pass through, which can impact the final quantitation. Secondly, the concentration step can cause a loss of the more volatile compounds, das to their higher vapour pressures. When these two factors are combined, the total impact can be a significant drop in anaiyte recovery values.
